Wireless Router Compaison

Looking to go wireless on my internet connection for 3 house computers. What is the difference between Wireless G, Super G, and G Mimo. How is the speed difference? How is the range difference? And what 'special' features would I get from one versus the other?

g is 54Mbps
all other forms are variants of the "G" spec that use multiple channels to increase bandwidth, usually to 108Mbps
whatever spec you use, you must use the same technology with the cards
for example: super G router, needs a super G wireless card in order to work at 108Mbps

they also have "pre" N standard which is yet another variant

I say go with whicever brand you like (linksys, belkin, etc)

54g is your standard g router, about 50 ft with the Linksys WRT54G
Super G supposedly gets you faster speed, havn't used it so no comment
G MIMO (Linksys SRX and SRX-200s) got 2 - 3x the range and great speeds through that area (equal to the first 30 ft of a standard G).

After reading some of the wireless networking articles on tomshardware, it seems the routers based on the Airgo true MIMO chipset perform the best as of now. Maybe you should take a look over there and see what fits the bill.

I've just tried out the Belkin Super G MIMO router for the last two weeks. Simple to setup and has excellent range compared to my older Linksys WRTGS. I would have kept it but there is a small problem with them that doesn't effect you unless you plan online games. The router has a firewall that detects DOS attacks and blocks them. Well it would think everytime I launched Steam, that the connections where DOS attacks and I would get horrible lag spikes. I tried everything from forwarding ports, turning off the firewall, and even putting my pc into a DMZ but the DOS service would still work. Belkins support sucks, I emailed them and they never emailed me back. I've read this problem from other users as well.
So I returned it and now I'm using Linksys SRX200. First it's not as easy to setup, for whatever reason at the end of using the setup disk it kept saying that it didn't detect any router connected to my pc even though everything was hooked up right. Finally got it going but haven't had a chance to test speed or range yet but the DOS problems I was having are now taken care of by just forwarding the ports like normal.
