Wireless Router Auto-Reset.

I have a Netgear WGR614 v4 with latest firmware. It's been running smoothly for approx. 1.2 years. Until recently, I have noticed that it sometimes resets itself...so it disconnects all the existing connections. It doesn't use to do that on its own but it starts to behave like this recently. It doesn't happen frequently but it's annoying....I don't wanna change the port while downloading.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

I had the same problem with my netgear wgt624 v2 it disappeared after changing the wireless channel from 6 to 11, if you don?t need wireless try disable in the settings.

Hmm, that reminded me few days ago, I have changed the wireless channel from 6 to 8 and I think that's why I am getting disconnections!! So time to try out other channels.

Thanks so much for your help.

use netstumbler to find a low use channel. It's actually better to be on the same channel then 2 channels away. 2 channels and it qualifies as noise. Same channel as the nearby AP's, or 4+ channels away is the rule of thumb for B/G.

have you recently started to do a lot of bittorrent transfers or P2P transfers? I know it kills a few routers out there

Hmm, excellent utility. I will try that once I get home.

Just curious, how would using BitTorrents kill routers? Is it because the router is over-used?

Thanks again!

here's my half-ass answer without doing any real research, just things I have heard:

it has to do with the number of open connections and the length of time those connections are open or stay open or have to be remembered by the router

I know my router gets kinda hot and I haver never turned it off. Hmm, then I will try switching over another channel tonight.
