Wireless router app for Win 7 & 10?

My retired mom lives in another state, and hates and fears new technology. We bought her a wireless router so she could get Netflix streaming but months later she still hasn't done the 10 minute setup.

Are there any decent apps for Windows to have your PC act as a wireless router for non-PC devices like a Roku?

(Yes, I know I should fly there and set up the real router, but work has kept me too busy.)

That's... a roundabout way of making this work, but what you're looking for is Internet Connection Sharing, which creates a bridge between the device and the windows PC, and shares the internet connection of that PC with the devices. It's a feature built into Windows.

Honestly, you're gonna have an easier time getting her to set up the router using the config wizard than you would walking her through creating a network via ICS.

If you have her install teamviewer could you possibly do the setup?

I've used ICS, but I think it has a lot of over head.

Thanks all. That virtual router looks promising.

The TeamViewer suggestion is good too. I'd just need to get her to connect the router between the DSL modem and PC, then use TeamViewer for setting the wireless. That will take longer than her reading the quick start for the router, but I've given up on that 🙂
