I have been using a wireless router connected to my DSL modem (Quest) for about 8 months.
It works great, and my home network consists of five or six machines, some connected by ethernet cable and some by wireless ethernet.
I use dynamic IP adresses, and setting up and connecting is pretty much automatic.
My question is how would I stop someone from parking in the street and using my wireless bandwidth or worse hacking in to my network? I have tested my laptop wireless range and it is possible to connect to my router by parking in front of my house at the curb.
I haven't had any problems yet, is it possible to set a password on my router to gain access?
If so how would this be done? I have no idea, I have never had security issues and don't even use an administrator password to log on to any of my machines.
All machines are assigned to the same workgroup, but do not show up in network places.
Not a problem because we don't share files, just internet access and occasional lan gaming which works just fine.
