i have d-link 624 Wireless roulter
i'm thinking to get SMC wireless usb NIC $38CAD
would that work? or is better to stick with the brand?
 
It is possible to mix brands.

However you cannot mix 802.11b with 802.11a. (unless it is dual a/b or a/g)
You can mix 802.11b with 802.11b 802.11g. (g is backwards compatible with b by definition)

It is easier to gaurentee compatiblity with same brand, but they SHOULD work together.
