I have a couple PC's down in my basement which can all access internet via a router. I want to install a 802.11g access point in the basement so that pc's on the second floor of my house can have access to internet as well. Is there any way in telling if the range would be successful or not? As far as I can tell, telephone reception is quite poor in the basement if that is of any indication. I plan on getting the USR access point. Thanks.

There is no sure way besides trying.

Log to the following page. The differences between the first set of graphs to the second represent the performance differences between 802.11b to 802.11g

Notice how the D-Link and Netgear Super G farewell above thee rest of the Crowd.

If saving every $ is not he issue the Super G is the way to go.

One thought would be to use a CAT5 cable, lay it from the basement to the first floor and install the AP there.
