Wireless Range Extender

I have currently a wireless 2wire modem. It is in my room one side of the house, but we got a new tv and it is on the other side of the house. Np right. Well I have my xbox on that tv, and it frequently lags out. I was wondering what I could do about this problem. I was looking into getting a wireless range extender. Is this a good idea, and am I looking at the problem the right way?

Just take any kind of Access Point that has the Repeater option and join it to your WiFi network. You should place it somewhere in the middle of your house and that should do the trick
 
Do you have any repeaters you recommend. I am fairly new to this and still searching for one. I have a 2wire wireless modem, are there some repeaters that only work with particular modems?
