Wireless range etending question

I have a linksys WRT54G wireless router that won'r quite reach as far as I need it to go so I need to expand the range. I'm having trouble understang what the difference is between a bridge and a AP and the different jargon used by different Mfgs. isn't helping any.

Is there a "box" that will recieve the wireless signal from the router and rebroadcast it and the response from the wireless NIC back to the WRT54G? in other words, I'd like to extend the range via wireless rather than wired.

you can use another WRT54G in repeater mode to strengthen your signal.

One downside though is they reduce throughput on the WLAN. A repeater must receive and retransmit each frame on the same RF channel, which doubles the number of frames that are sent.

thanks, I can't find "repeater mode" anywhere in the setup. I flashed to the Freeman firmware and now have bridged and AP but I still cannot get the two to connect WIRELESSLY. If I connect the 2 routers via cable, it works as expected. Just need the 2 to talk wirelessly.

Forget that repeater crap. Get an AP from SMC and run your cable to were you want to place the AP this way you are not halfing our bandwidth.....
