Wireless Question - Can this be done

Ok, Assuming I have line of site and can get a decent connection....

I have a problem in my neighborhood where I can't get any broadband, but 300 feet away (if that) my neighbor can (don't ask, sore subject 🙂 ) Anyway, He's willing to get the cable modem and I will pay for it.

I want to set up an access point in his house and be able to use the connection in my house.

Now, I have a fully wired 100baseT network in the house. I know I will definately need a wireless client, but is there a way for me to hook the wireless client card into a laptop and just have the laptop act as a sort of server connecting back over the wireless network to his house and accessing the broadband connection?

Also, any suggestions on Wireless Access Point and a wirless client card with an adapter for external antenna would be great.. Right now I'm leaning towards the Orinoco card (probably silver version).

Thanks for the help,

Josh

you'd need and access point hooked up to his cable modem and a client on your network that all your computers can access to share the connection off that client.

This sounds like a bad situation though. just cause your paying for the cable connection when it is in his house etc. Watch yourself

It's not as bad as it sounds. I would happily buy it in a heartbeat for my house, but unfortunately they stopped a street short on activating service and haven't started back up again. Very depressing to tell you the truth, it's a brand new house.

Thanks for the help.

Now back to the main reason... 🙂 What do I need to do to the client on my end of the network to let that client share the connection?

Thanks,

Josh

set the box up for ICS or make it a router/firewall machine. or I think you might be able to put two nics in it and plug the nic into a router/switch type deal.
