hey guys i'm kinda new to configuring my wireless network and junk like that cause i normally just plug an dplay with my ethernet cable. for the past week or two my laptop has been saying limited or no connectivity. i know it has something to do with my firewall on my 2wire modem thing cause it started about a day after i tried to forward a port but i didnt need to so i closed it. now when i try to do repair or w/e it says cannot retrieve ip address or something in a error message. and when i go into my firewell settings thing in my modem it says my laptop is inactive and i dont know why....i have a 2wire 1800hg modem and my laptop is a hp nc8000 if you guys need any more information to be able to help me i will gladly supply it to you

Let me get this straight.

You used to have your laptop plugged into your modem directly. Now you are using wireless somehow.

According to what it says there, you have what is referred to as a modem/router/wireless access point combo unit.

As for wireless, I would read their manual. Usually the best approach is to configure the router while connected via a wire.

While connected via a wire, go to windows network connections, click on the connection, and find the status tab. there it will list the "gateway" IP address. Type that into any web browser, and use the login information found in the manual. Then Proceed to configure the wireless settings, save them, disconnect, and try to connect wirelessly.

oh poop my bad okay i meant i normally use ethernet cables for my other computers but my laptop i had just scanned for w/e and u know connected to it...im just using wireless on my laptop not ethernet cable sorry for the misunderstanding

well my situation is not setting up the wireless on my laptop cause it was working in the first place but i think i made an "uh-oh" somewhere that made it not work. i was doing some port forwarding but then i didnt need it anymore so i deleted it the settings for it and then alla sudden the next day my laptop wouldnt connect to the internet no more

Therefore, because it was working, and now it Not working, you do not need to find what is wrong NOW?

Since you do not know on your own what to do, read the manual and the pages suggested to you and start to set it up again until you would find what is Not set correctly and Fix it.

I wish I could just say few time Abra Cadabra and the problem would go away, but Abra Cadabra works only in vivo and not through the Internet.😉
