just clearing this up making sure i have everything correct since i work as a sales associate and havnet recieved proper training on some products.



hp wireless printes have a network adapter built in that functions like a notebook wireless card----
requires a router/access point to send out a signal so the printer can recieve information from the PC.

is anyone using these and how do you like them?

i bought the hp 5850. it works great for what i need. i'm not going to talk about print quality, because i dont really know because i print mainly "throwaway" text and some random pictures.

the hp 5850 has a usb, ethernet, and wireless connectivity. i didnt use the usb or ethernet connection AT ALL. i set it up with the wireless connection alone.

i turned the printer on and it connected to my wireless network (using netgear MR814). i went to my computer, installed the software, and away was i! installed the software on a couple of other printers and it worked fine.

from what i read in the manual, there is an ad-hoc mode, but i didnt try it out. the printer found the network by itself. this particular printer has a web admin page, you open up IE, go to the IP and you can look at settings and such. and if you dont have wireless, you can connect to the ethernet port on this printer.

i like my printer. it works well and it was a snap to set up. on top of that, i got it for less than $100 because of rebates =)
