Wireless printer with cheap ink

Actual print speed isn't key.

Color isn't REQUIRED (although I feel that outside laser printers, most everything adds color these days) but its preferred.

But I need it to be wireless, and I need it to be able to have cheap ink. 30-40 dollar carts is just a stab to my heart D:

However, I've had mixed results recently - I used to get all my ink from SwiftInk; I got them for my canon i550 and it was great...printed soooo much. However, the printer died on my one day (something about clogged printer head that i couldn't fix) and that was the end of that. For my other friends who have used different types of HP printers they have had a LOT less success. So althoug hI know that cheap carts only come as generic, I'd prefer a 'tried and true' printer that won't hvae many problems with generic carts.

What do you guys think? My google-fu failed me....

Or should I toss in the towl and just go laser? I used to use laser till my printer died, and I loved how I could print so much, HOWEVER, if I have no real options, then I'll just go laser.

You can buy a replacement printhead for your i550 for about $60.00. Its way better than dealing with chips. Get you to ebay and you may be able to knock one down even cheaper and still have it be OEM Canon new.

Or go to the nifty stuff forums and they have great articles on how to unclog Canon printheads.

i still have an ip4000 and ip3000 because chipped ink is evil. i honestly wish they would just charge $400 for the printers and let us use the ink that we want.

While I agree 100% with wirednuts, I would say its long past time for not only the American sheeple but the world's sheeple to make chipped printers illegal. Its a multi billion or maybe a trillion dollar racket by printer manufacturers all over the world.

Its long past time, IMHO, to line those rascals against walls and shoot them. I too have an IP4000 I can refill for peanuts. It runs rings around my laser in terms of consumable costs, but I need my laser for only copy and fax functions. Still scouring goodwill stores hoping the find an MP780 so I can have a spare. But if my wife's ip4000 ever craps out, 10,000+ pages and counting, I have a MP730 that just needs a new printhead.

no its long gone at this stage....got rid of it about 2 years back. i tried methods to fix it, but none were successful. I have to start from anew

I was looking at the samsung ML-2525W - pretty cheap for a laser printer and it was wireless....BUT (always the but) seems there is this persistent bug where the printer goes into sleep mode and cannot be come out of sleep mode. There was a Brother printer HL2270DW for the same price, but almost everyone was complaining of brownouts during printing...

Pardon me magomago,, but I have always failed to understand why anyone would want wireless printing. As an extra cots option, Its certainly important to you, and I have to assume somewhere in the crowded Laser market there is not a good option for you lacking negative reviews. As for me, I have always felt that if I am going to get a laser, it should be some fully featured all in one like my brother 7820N. Less than $150.00 will get you a new wireless all in one. Or less on the used market craigs list.

But on wireless laser printers only, I will punt that question to other more expert with that segment of the market.

Router is in the kitchen because that is where the cable connection is....

....that is why :p

Yeah unless I'm going to draw wire in really awkward positions, it has got to be wireless. Too bad most ones I'm finding for the price I'm willing to pay seem to have issues (~150 USD)....perhaps its because I'm trying to get too many features for too cheap.

I have a canon mp560. I think it's a very good printer. Just used it last week to print out twenty five 5x7 glossy birthday invitations. It did a great job. Well, until it started making a weird noise and the paper would shift and everything would print offline. So, a quick call to canon and, since it was under warranty, they sent me a new one.

Not sure if recommending a printer that just broke on me is a good idea but it really has been a great printer overall and canon's support was very good. Now, if it had been more than a month out of warranty I would probably be telling a different story.

Oh, and I bought all 5 or 6 ink tanks from shop4tech for ~20 not too long ago. Colors look great.

I do have an older ip4500 that was awesome. It stopped working and the flashing light error indicates a printhead issue. Just not sure if I want to spend $$$ on it and it turns out to be something else.
