ok, sisters apt has a wireless lan. she has something called BOINGO on it fromt he wireless card. she keeps picking up a second wireless signal from a second wlan. THe problem is her connection keeps dropping because of this second wlan and the card trying to switch over(or something).

what can I do to prevent this?

You should also be able to tell the Lan card to use a preferred network, that way it'll alway log on to the chosen network when its avaliable.

these are all good ideas, and i would liek to knwo more.

how do i go about changeing these things? where do i look?

in XP look in connection status >Properties tab> Wireless Networks -- there is a "Preferred Networks" list and you can specify there. Boingo is not necessary for her to connect -- I would personally uninstall it.
