I'm building a portable SFF/Destkop rig that's going to be used for a few different projects in a couple weeks, and it's imperative I find a wireless NIC that has some great range for both home and abroad.

I don't really care if it's above average cost wise (as I expect it would be), and I'll even purchase an additional antennae...I'm just turning to you guys for advice on the most cost effective & best performing Wireless PCI NIC you know of.

The Best is an abstract verbal metaphor that has nothing to do with technology.

I can tell what I would do.

I would get the Proxim 8482-WD ( www.proxim.com/learn/library/d...ts/11abgpcicard_A4.pdf)

It is a High Power (100mW) 802.11 a/b/g PCI card, the WD (world) edition covers the channels concoctions worldwide.

In addition I would get additional external Antenna with about 4-6 feet coax cable.

Example.
This is an Omni directional that comes with 5 feet cable and connector of your choice.

According to the circumstances that you foresee might be that High Gain Directional Antenna instead, or in addition to the Omni directional Antenna, should be considered too.

Thank you for the answer....I've found a few "e-tailers" that carry that product and I'll be looking into it further after exploring a few other options.

Anyone else wanna share?
