wireless on a laptop - centrino vs usb vs pcmcia

i have a dell inspiron 600m with centrino wireless technology. it doesnt seem to pick up a signal that well anymore. im wondering, can i disable it and maybe use a usb adapter or a pcmcia card instead? will my reception be any better (i think the centrino uses the screen as its antenna, which might seem better/bigger than the usb or pcmcia)? thanks.

you might check and make sure your 2 antenna leads are on securely...should be 2 screws on the bottom of the laptop.

Usually, onboard works better then both PCMCIA and USB.
