I have a wireless router and I need to connect my desktop to it. Other machines in the house are already connected to it by a wired connection, but I don't want to cut up the walls for my machine. What short of hardware for my desktop do I need to get to allow me to connect to it? Can I just buy a wireless network card? Are they expensive?

as long as it supports your access points wireless standard (a, b, g) and the required encryption (preferrably wpa) you should be good.

are you using another piece of software to control your wireless connection?

if so, disable it and go to settings > control panel > administrative tools > services > and start (or set to auto if needed) the service named 'Wireless Zero Configuration'

LOL, Thread jacking?

I think you did not understand the gist of my post.

If you can not choose form the link that jlazzaro gave you have to spend the time that is necessary to read these pages so you would have minimal understanding of Wireless and would not need to ask sub basic questions.

Going the way it goes now, 30 hours past since your initial post and you are in square One.

I apologize, I thought you were asking those questions for yourself. Thanks for posting those links, but none of them seem to work for me.

I purchased a gigabyte wireless card and have it installed and running, but unfortuately something is blocking me from start the windows zero connection service, and I was just wondering where to look to find the program that is blocking that.

When you install the card's software, it probably installed the Gigabyte utility too.

Most of these utilities stop WZC when they load up.

Check, if this is the case may be the utility have an entry that can be checked to allow WZC to work.

Otherwise, get rid of the utility.

See third paragraph highlighted with yellow on the second link in my above post.

Otherwise, if there is a problem with WZC per-se this might help, http://www.ezlan.net/wzc.html
