Another question is, has anyone had any experience with Microsofts Wireless Networking Products?

If so, what is your opinion?

Thanks

Got a good deal on a MS Wireless router and MS Wi-Fi card through Target of all places and this thing is just amazing. Pd $79, have 4 computers hooked to it (2 cat5,2 wireless) and it never misses a beat . Range is my neighbors house next door!! and maybe farther. Easy setup and router access. About the size of a paperback book.

Never thought Id have anything good to say about MS but so far so good. Oh yeah, free support also and the guy I called for a minor problem was very well informed.

Lots of other good words on this unit in a hot deals thread you may be able to find if you do a search there. EDIT: Search on "target" and go down to first Deal Dead thread.

Relaced a Linksys and so far very happy. For home use Id recommend it.

This week I would buy this Wireless Router.

SleepSteam 2626Wireless Router.

There is $30 rebate which bring the price down to $47. (Else where it is sold for over $120).

Then I would find the cheapest place that sells Orinoco Gold Client.

It will cost less then MS, and you will get better Wireless performance.

Why?

Given what ever Access Point, or Wireless Cable/DSL Router, you have, among the Entry Level 802.11b cards the Orinoco PCMCIA Gold is the champ.

One of the ways to augment Wireless is by using a better Antenna then the stick that come on the regular Wireless hardware. The typical "stick" is about 2.2dbi, a good Antenna would be 5dbi and above.

While most of the Access Points have a removable Antenna, most Wireless Cable/DSL Routers do not.

The Speedstream 2624 has two advantages.

1. The Antenna is removable.
2. The original Antenna is 5dbi.

==============================================
Otherwise I would go with the decor:

If you need Blue, get Linksys.

Nice Gray a Silver, get D-Link.

Futuristic look, get Belkin.

Stylish, get Microsoft.

Battleship Gray, get SMC.

In otherwords ther is no real differences between the above.

I guess Jack has a lead on the future Speedstream products but the current offering, the 2624, has done me well. The added gain of the dipole can be overkill actually and offers not multipath avoidance due to the inability of one antenna to do diversity, but if your trying to add cell size the extra gain can help that under most circumstances. After 5 months with it, I have only rebooted it a few times, which I am impressed with for a SOHO device.

LOL. Jack just made a Typo it is 2624.

I use mine to replace the Old SMC Barricade. No regrets it is working well.

However, a Sleepstream 802.11g is coming soon.
