Wireless networking question.

It seems that I have run into this more then just once.

It seems that when you setup a wireless network and secure it say using WPA some computers have no problems connecting to it at all and others have issues, either authenticatiing or getting an IP once it's connected to the network.

This has been my experience even when saying using a linksys router and the a Linksys PCMIA card. It seems that it doesn't matter how close the computer is to the router it would not get an IP. It was using wep encryption, then I went to WPA and then the computer got an IP no problem. Then all of the sudden it lost it's connection and would not get an IP even though it was still connected to the wireless network. So I manually specified an IP and then it started to get onto the network no problem. What is with this? Are they working on improving compatiblility and reliability on wireless networks or what? Why would I linksys card and a linksys router have conflicts? Or is there another explanation as to why other computers have no problems and other do?

Sounds like a compatiblility issue with some of your PCs although one works with same encryption type. Suffering to obtain the DHCP could be resolve by updating the software for your router. Also best thing is you power cycle the router with all the PCs powered on and connected wirelessly without specifing the static. This way the gateway will assign the IP addresses in order for each computer when PC attempt to connect to its gateway. Problem still persist, then make sure hotfix and service pack for your operating system is up to date! Good luck! Cheers! 🙂

YAP, that is Entry Level Wireless Network every thing is possible.

Changing chipset in the same model every few month, Careless Drivers, Strange utilities etc.

And it all Starts with a statement

300 feet Indoor.

1200 feet Outdoor.

But in general it works, and we all love it, and buy it.

When using Encryption it is very easy to use Passphrase.

However, in case of trouble it is much better to generate the Hex string in the Router and copy it to the Wireless Client.

When you don't get an IP, it's because you mistyped the passphrase, 99% of the time. The other 1% is due to gamma rays bouncing off mr clean's head and causing spatial interference.

actually I have a linksys router that does not work with a linksys card... do you have the 4400N router cause that has issues connecting to different Linksys cards except the specific one it is matched to... I had the same issues with encryption
