OK, well the internet is fine when shared, both are connected to the same workgroup and both run winxp pro, i tried pinging the laptop it works fine, but when i try to acess the drive and double click on any folder or file it says the "does not have permission, contact admin or something"

Can someone help me out ,PLEASE, i have been frustrated since 7 days trying to share the files between computers!!!

i did share all drives, i am using winxp pro both computers with ntfs partitions, i think its something to do with the shares

both computers are admins?

so i am not sure how to proceed.

Just a side note:

The desktop is connected using broadband DSL to the router with a cable and the laptop has the wireless card.

THE WIRELESS ROUTER IS MODEL MN 500 from micorosoft.

On any computer, right click a folder go to the Sharing tab, click Share this Folder and give it a name.

On the other computer, go to Start, Run, type two backslashes and the computer name of the machine you just shared the folder on.

Ex: \\laptop

If it asks for a username and password then enter the username and password of the administartor account to the computer that has the shared folder.

If your having problems, turn off Windows XP firewall and make sure for some strange reason you don't have the Security tab set to deny access on that folder.

thx for the reply ,

there is no firewall running under XP i have disabled it on both computers, both have the same workgroup? but the funny thing i can see all the drives on my desktop computer, but i cant see the desktop computers drive on the laptop, nor can it find the workgroup for some apparent reason when i click "My workgroup" link

btw i tried to punch in the name which is "\\computer" it says no such computer exists???

are you able to view the shared folders if you go to Start, Run, and type " \\(other computer name) " ?

I know you stated you checked, but double check your ICF (windows firewall).
Your issues are exactly that of the firewall being enabled on one machine.
Do you run Norotn or McAfee Internet Security?
