wireless networking on my laptop

I just got a Cisco wireless mini-pc card, so I installed it in my thinkpad. Installed the drivers, etc...
When I try to search for a wireless network, the one that is installed at my apartment doesn't come up.
I manually entered the SSID and put in the correct WEP values, but it can't connect to the wireless router. I know our wireless network should work, because my roommate has a laptop and uses it all the time. Any suggestions?
BTW I'm running XP.

No. I got it to recognize and connect to the network somehow. It shows signal strength is good, etc...
But when I unplug or disable the Local Area Connection, the wireless doesn't work. I can get an IP address for it too, when both are enabled.
