Wireless networking- Is it bad for gaming?

I have a computer upstairs and one downstairs. I want the one downstairs to have a connection but it's really far away I dont want to use cables. So is wireless routers good for gaming? will it lag? Also, what should I buy if I want a wireless network?
 
Wireless will add maybe 3-5ms to your ping, which is nothing. Most games work OK with 56k, or 1/2mbit cable/dsl connections, so a 11mbps wireless will be plenty of bandwidth for playing LAN games fine.
