Hi.
In terms of Wireless Networks;
Whats the difference between a Wireless Router and a Wireless Access Point?
---
I plan to have a wireless (semi) network setup as follows;
Wireless Router/ADSL Modem. With normal Cat5 link to main PC as they`ll be less than a meter away from each other. And a iBook 12" accessing the wireless network via its 54Mbs wireless addon. And in the future another desktop PC with a wireless card as well.
So, with the above info, can you specify which products that i`ll need?
Price is premium. As cheap as possible.
From here;

I was thinking for the normal network card, that;
Netgear FA311 Network Card - Retail (NW-000-NG) @ £9.93 wold be ideal.
Not sure about the rest. Cos although some of the wireless routers are being labled as broadband routers, the websites for them dont list them as having an internal modem.

Thanks in advance guys/gals.

Access Point is a stand alone unit that can be plugged into an available Switch and act as the Wireless source for Wireless Clients. Wireless Cable/DSL is a regular Entry level Router that the Access Point is already built and connected in the same box.

More here: Wireless Cable/DSL Router or Access Point ? What should I get?

As far as what to buy? It hard to give advice to people who are purchasing out of the US since the price structure is different.

801.11b hardware can be found as low as $30 for Wireless Cable/DSL Router and $10 for a PCMCIA Card.

At the moment the best performance for the price is: D-Link Extreme G Bundle Kit ($897after rebate).

Why?

Link to: 802.11a/b/g SOHO Routers & Access Points: Performance.

Notice how the D-Link and Netgear Super G stick out above the Crowd.

Bundle=Wireless SuperG Router + matching PCMCIA Cardbus.
