Allo, Allo

Alright, here's the deal. Right now...my "creative" wiring has cat5e adorning the rear of my house, but the neighbors won't stand for it etc. etc. So I'm contemplating setting up a 11g network. Here are my questions:

1) I'm not confident in my knowledge of the difference between wireless routers and wireless acess points. I have a router already (obviously)...so can I save the money on the router hardware and get a WAP instead of a wireless router? (Can someone explain setup of WAP's to me, as well).

2) We've got a 2.4Ghz wireless phone with multiple handsets-the worst news of all. What's the story of interference? Is it not even worth the money because the interference will be so bad, is it a "signal lost" when the phones ring kind of deal, or are we talking just bandwidth drops (the network will almost never be used for file sharing, primarily ICS).

3) Could positioning of the WAP/Wireless router improve signal performance if the phones prove to be a big problem? I've got a few alternate locations already mapped out. One solution I thought of is to move the WAP/Wireless router and modem upstairs to another cable jack. Can positioning improve signal strength (especially if one of the first two options (non-functional and signal lost during phone calls occurs) enough to solve those problems in question #2?

4) Is it possible to attach the modem to any jack in the house, or do I have to connect it to a specific one? (I suppose I should call Time Warner about that, but whatever). The cable guys did some special wiring for the Broadband connection, so I would think it will half to stay. Thoughts?

5) What brands/models of hardware do you recommend for my setup (I've got a Linksys wired switch/router connected to a Toshiba cable modem...the WAP would be connected to the router (if it works like I think it does) and wireless router would take the place of the Linksys. I am trying to reach to two upstairs computers that are each within 75-100 feet of the computer (probably less than that, I am judging by the lengths of Cat5 required to reach those computers). What WAP/Wireless router do you recommend (and which type of hardware (WAP v. Router) should I use?). Can a signal booster help my situation any?

Any other advice you may have regarding my issues would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

Since Access Points are more expensive than Wireless Routers, most people buy an addtional Wireless Cable/DSL Router.

However th following links might help you to decide upon the Road that you would like to take.
