wireless networking for computer

So if I were to enable my computer for wireless networking, what would be the best route?

I see usb wireless connectors. How are they?

How do they compare to pcie cards?

Are there any that connect directly into the ethernet port and work?

There are some high end USB adapters out there but PCI-E is going to be better. You'll get a stronger signal plus you can get one with 3 antennas to allow MIMO mode. Antennas can also be adjusted to improve signal strength.

As for connecting to the ethernet port, a good option is a wireless bridge. The bridge connects to your wifi and has Ethernet ports on it. I use one for my home theater and it allows my consoles, blu-ray, Netflix, etc, to connect with a strong signal. An example of one is the D-Link DAP-1522: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DAP-1522
