I am having major difficulty with my wireless LAN. I have a Vista Ultimate x64 running on my laptop and Windows XP Pro on my Desktop. When I am copying a large file from the XP Pro machine to the Vista machine (I initiate the copy from Vista, not from XP), the transfer is relatively fast (approx 1 meg per second), I then get really slow internet/LAN connectivity.

Meaning, as the copy is in progress, both machines have difficulty pinging my router (192.168.1.1). Out of 10 pings, maybe 2 or 3 say 'Request timed out'. Then, I can't ping an outside server, i.e., yahoo.com at all, or again, it says Request timed out.

As soon as I cancel or complete the file transfer, everything starts working smoothly again. Can anyone please help?

Many thanks in advance.

That's normal. The file transfer is taking up all the capacity of the wireless. Also remember that many internet sites won't respond to pings.
