Hello People!

i am planning to buy wireless network card for my college. they use Spectrum 24 lan card, i want to get 3com Airconnect. i would like to know if 3com Airconnect will work with spectrum 24 www.symbol.com or i should only buy spectrum 24 card.

thank you.

I'll let you know soon. Cuz my wife works at symbol and possible get me a deal - if there is a deal i'll let u know but symbol works closely with 3com / palm

Dude, I ask my wife, Symbol built this for 3com so it should work, 930 for the AP with appox 25% off or 1400 for 1 AP 3 radio cards.. with about 25% off.. dunno if this is a good deal.

dude, she just told me there is a newer pcmcia wireless card that takes less power if you wanna wait. Dunno if you want to. No idea how long it'll take.

You will find that may of the products out there are compatible with other products. I have tried using an SMC Wirless PCMCIA card with a 3COM access point and it works wonders. You will find that the newer Wireless cards are capable of 11Mbps transfer compared to 2Mbps before so you have many options and the 3COM AirConnect is a pretty good product so you should have no problems. Good luck to you. ;-)

The Spectrum 2 system is compliant with IEEE 802.11, which is the relatively new standard for wireless ethernet. This means any card that is compliant with 802.11 should work fine. I say 'should' because there may be some compatibility issues with different manufacturers. Try e-mailing both of them and ask if their product is compatible with the other. I wish my college had a wireless LAN...

i'm trying to find the smc 11mb wireless card but everywhere seems out of stock - i bought the access point from compusa but cant find anymore cards - i guess there's too much demand! any suggestions?

edu.com say that they'll have them in two weeks. the deals there are really good for faculty and students. the cards are around $130 and the access point is $399 including a free pc card!!!!

apparently smc offer students free cards? i've not seen evidence though but would defnintely recommend a call there

Linksys is coming out with some new equipment, which is the lowest price true ethernet (none of that fuddy duddy parallel port home networking stuff) wireless networking equipment. I think Intel and 3Com make some as well, but prepare to drop a grand or so for the wirless access point alone. Anyways, details of the deal are posted at:

http://www.scoreadeal.com

Best price around listed there, plus discounts. Most stores expect to have them by the 27th, so pre-order while the prices are good and discounts are in effect!

SMC has wireless 11Mbps air port for 489 & a 50 rebate & ONE free wireless card.
Available NOW for around 489!

When purchasing any WLAN equipment wether it be a pc card or an Access point make sure they are WIFI compliant this will ensure interoperability. You can also checkout WECA and WLANA aka. wireless local area network associtation for any interoperability issues. most of your major manufacturers ie. cisco, lucent 3comm all interoperable when functioning in compliance with the IEEE 802.11b standard.
