Wireless Network Woes

Hi Everyone,

I have been having trouble lately with my wireless network (I have Comcast cable service through a Netgear WGT624 wireless firewall router with WEP 64-bit encryption). I live in a townhome and have about 3-4 wireless networks visable from time to time.

For close to 10 months, I had no problems whatsoever. But, for the last three months or so, periodically I will lose my wireless connection to two different laptops (and get the no activity or no connection message; sometimes the network is not even visable). It seems like the connection drops most often when the Internet/network is inactive for a length of time.

Repairing the connection sometimes works, but it typically just has the same problem again and again. It's weird, though, because some days I have no problems whatsoever. Also, the wired connection to my desktop has no problems from the router at all.

I have tried numerous channels, but it occurs on all of them. Would anyone have any suggestions to help me?

Thank you!

probably interference. especially if you have so many visible wireless networks in range.
if you have the means, i would try a different brand wireless router. I like belkin myself

probably interference

That would be my guess as well. Ask your neighbors if they have purchased any new electronics in the last 3 months. You might also try changing the channel on your wireless devices. You also might try relocating your router if you haven't already done so. Hope you get it resolved.

Do you have this problem if you place the Laptop few feet away from the Wireless Router?

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I do have the problem even in the same room as the router from time to time.

i say go for a different wireless router. I had a similar problem with my $180 3com/usrobotics router (top of the line supposedly) everytime i used my cordless phone, the wireless went dead. this happened on every channel
i switched to a belkin access point, and it is the best wireless connection i have had to date
