I ended up getting NetGear 802 11b Kit. I would have got the g one but this was to good a deal to pass up. Got the router and card for 33 bucks with a 35 dollor rebate. 9 dollors shipping so ended up costing 7 bucks for the whole thing. Setup was a snap and seems to be working fine. One question.

What do I have to do to enable the hardware firewall action. I only installed the drivers to the laptop to recognize the card. I really don't want a bunch of worthless crud installed. I just want to have the firewall working. Does it do it's thing automatically?
I also have a desktop connected to the router with a ethernet cable.

It's a Netgear cable/dsl wireless router MR814v2

On Guard
True firewall with SPI and NAT to track and filter connections coming in from the Internet to your network, giving you powerful protection against Internet hackers. VPN (Virtual Private Network) pass-through allows users secure access to corporate networks. Powerful encryption (40/64 or 128-bit) protects against eavesdroppers, and Address Authentication restricts connections to specific wireless adapters ? only those you approve are allowed to use your network. E-mails notify you of Internet activity. Content logging and filtering limit access to inappropriate web sites.

The SPI firewall is on your router. Perhaps your aware but you mentioned loading the client card for some reason so I wanted to point that out. Your card in the laptop or whatever is not part of the equation. The firewall is implemented at the router. Your manual should detail this nicely. Just login to the admin/config pages in your browser and tool around that page.

Thanks allot,
I was hoping for a easy answer but it looks like I may have to do some more reading when I have time. The manual doesn't really answer my question. I assume that since I haven't installed the software for this hardware, I cannot login into any config. wed page yet. I was hoping to avoid installing any software that I really don't need. What I have is cable coming into the modem then out to the router and ethernet cable to my desktop and wireless signal to my wifes laptop. We live out in the woods on 5 acres so I'm not to concerened about anyone tapping into the signal.

I have a hardware firewall built into my motherboard and it is some kind of Nvidia product.

So all I really want to know is .. do I need to do anything else to activate the hardware firewall that the wireless router claims to provide?

Thanks Again
