wireless network, turn on/off connections ?

My wife has bought a used PC for our daughter for Xmas. She is a 10 year old.

She currently uses my PC to use internet (web, chat with family/friends,...).
This PC will be in her own room, and my wife is asking me if wireless network can be turned on/off. I don't know much about wireless.
2) Further, my in-laws live in the same house, and have their own dsl connection, if we did/could share the cost via wireless, could I turn off just the one connection (my daughter) when I wanted to, and leave the other on all the time ?.

As I understand it, the wireless router would be "hard-wired" to the main PC (mine), is this correct ?. I'm the only gamer, and I must have the lowest ping times I can get 🙂 .

3) I use Ubuntu linux as my primary O/S. I have a dual boot with XP. I'm expecting I'll need to set it all up via WinXP. Is linux gonna work as it does now, or should I expect some issues to resolve with this wireless network.

thx for advice / help with this.

hahah, ya, you can shoot me after help with the wireless.

The cost of sharing makes for better upgrades for the PC 🙂

Bad excuse, but I'm trying 🙂

You should look into sharing your internet connection.
Just get a wireless router and 2 wireless adapters, could be PCI or USB.

For the kid's pc, you could use a firewall and only allow access with a password.
