I have a Netgear 814 router and a linksys usb adapter for my PC. the router is in the living room and the PC is in my bedroom down the hall (i live in an apartment). both the router and adapter are 802.11b. I figured for an apartment, this would be fine.
I love the idea of a wireless connection because there are no wires. However, lately, my network connection is very flaky. I just tried to ping my router and 2 out of the 4 packets timed out. This sucks when I'm trying to download something because something will be downloading fine and then it will just stop or when I'm browsing, pages will be loading fine and then not want to load at all.
I guess my question is with the newer 802.11g standard, will I see significant improvement in my network? Maybe my apartment just has really thick walls and the signal can't reach my PC very clearly even though we're only talking like 20-30 feet between the router and the adapter. will the g standard improve this at all? or would my best bet be to give up on the wireless thing and start wiring my apartment? thanks
