I have this odd wireless network problem. I'm entirely sure the problem resides with my software/os settings and less with my wireless network.

My place has a wireless network we all use. I have a desktop with a addon wireless card and the other housemates have laptops with built in wireless cards.

Here is the problem: I have spotty working internet. Webpages wont load, emails don't download via thunderbird, i get time outs on websites and the only thing that works without delay is AIM. Everything from page loading, downloading emails and signing onto AIM is a long process. But sending AIM Messages is good.

On other laptops, even the ones my friends use when here, work perfectly. Their webpages load, blah blah blah.

My System:
AMD 2.2ghz
1024 Corsair Ram
Radeon 9700 Pro
Abit NFS-7 2.0
Linksys Speedbooster G Wireless Card
XP Pro

I tried reinstalling unisntalling and reinstalling the wireless device under Device Manager.

Please help me out. Thanks.

sounds like you might be having an ip conflict with another laptop. are you guys set for automatic addressing in your nics? try using a static ip instead.

if ther was an IP config windows would say something.

Turn of all ur firwalls on that PC, than click start run > type cmd> type ipconfig/flushdns try to surf again . but turn off or uninstall all ur software firewalls.

You might also want to try moving the antenna (or the unit if the antenna is fixed) to a different location. See if it works then. Also, if you have power settings on you adapter on the computer, set it to a higher fixed level and not to "automatic". If you have a notebook that works perfectly fine at your location, move your unit to a location where the notebook is fine and then see if it makes a differenc. (Or vice versa -- move the notebook to the location your antenna is located). Sometimes there are reflections of the radio waves that can be a problem in one specific location and not at othere. Anyway, worth a try, and easy to do.

hope this helps.
