wireless network problem

I have my laptop hooked up on my wireless network and it was working fine for a month with the laptop in my room and router downstairs, but recently its been disconnectting about once an hour or so, and i can reconnect it after a couple minutes, anyone know what could cause this sudden problem??

also when I move it downstairs, closer to the router it works better and doesnt disconnect,?
why would it work before upstairs but not now, oh yah i got new cell phone can that have anything to with it?

I don't think it has anything to do with the cell phone, but try switching channels on your AP and see if that helps. Also, how is your signal strength?

AP = Access Ponit. If you go to the setup of the router, you can change the channel that it broadcasts on (same way that mobile *not cellular* phones do it). If you change the channel, you might have a better signal, if something is interferring with the channel you were using.

i dont even think it has to do with my signal strength, i am right next to the AP with my laptop and the signal strength comes up as excellent but it says my speed is only at 1.0MBS, as opposed to 22-54MBS, which it previouslly was connected at since ive had my laptop, dunno why it all the sudden is so slow??

Change the channel and call me in the morning (not really). Make sure you change it to a non-overlapping channel too. If the AP is set to channel 6, be on the safe side and change it to channel 11.
