wireless network "not associated"

Hey everyone. I have a netgear wireless G router and an edimax wireless b pci card that I've been using for many months. I used to have a linsys AP but i got rid of it becuase I thought it was causing the following problem. Sometimes I will put my computer on and my wireless adapter just doesn't see any networks. I have disabled all security measures (WEP, MAC, SSID is on broadcast) but my realtek8180 software keeps saying "Status: Not associated." However, just yesterday (and for the last few weeks) it was up and running no problem, all of a sudden I turn my computer on and I detect no networks, through edimax's software or windows. This is like the 5th time this has happened, it works for weeks and all of a sudden I get nothin, and I made no changes to any settings. No phones are in use and my computer is 1 wall from the router, not even 10 feet away. I tried many times to repair the connection as well as restarting the router and cable modem to no avail. Any help would be so appreciated, thanks and have a good day.

Hi,

I'm not familiar with edimax, so could you tell me exactly what happens through windows? Is your network on the Preferred networks list? If not, try adding it manually through the Wireless Networks tab on your wireless card Properties (through Network Connections).

Double check to make sure you are broadcasting your SSID.

Try disabling whatever encryption you have on your router, just to see if the network appears. Which do you use, WEP, WPA, other?

Check out edimax's website for updated drivers.

Thanks kibbo, I am away for the night so I will try what you suggested when I get home, though I do believe I have tried most of those things, anyway I will give it another shot and then post more details and results tomorrow. thanks

How old is your netgear router? Sometimes Netgear routers overheat. I've read some stories about people who have no connection stability because their netgear router overheats. I had that problem for a while until we got a newer netgear router. If your router overheats, just unplug it and plug it back in. That usualy makes it go again... at least for a little while.
