😱
I can't believe I spent three hours or so messing around on the net looking for an answer, should'o looked here first
(at least I did a search for 'wireless kit" when I finally did figure it out... no results, though).
If you can bear with me, I'm so jazzed. I just ordered a DirecWay (used to be DirecPC) system.
It's a satellite system that will give us broadband downloads (though uploads are still 56K via modem). Problem is, I spend a
lot of time in my dungeon (about 200' from my house), and my wife's wokstation is, well, in the house. We are at least
8 miles from town, so DSL is out of the question. We have no cable here, so 56K is all we've been able to get for
Internet connection until sometime next week!
Now I need to figure out how to get a wireless LAN set up b4 Xmas, as I'm pretty sure my wife would like the d/l speed
DirecWay will be giving me in the dungeon. It'd be a pretty cool Xmas present...
Any ideas what I should try? I've done the Home Network (or whatever that phone line thing is) before, but it just didn't
work (too much distance, spikes... it's a log house... or something). Wrote that experience off to being too drunk or
lazy to figure it out b4 spending the $.
DirecWay says any good wireless system should work... so I been lookin'. Darned if I know what I'm lookin'
for though, ya know?
I think (as if I could do that this late i n the day) what I need is a good wireless "kit" (all the stuff to link 2 or 3 PC's
together, with ICS). One box, one set of instructions, one software CD, something for the lazy and/or weak, you know?
We're both running Win 98SE, the wife's rig is a Celery 466 (but with lots of ram). My boxes are a little more current,
so shouldn't matter as long as whatever I end up with works with her system.
Any suggestions?
