wireless network goes out durin storm

can anyone help me in explaining why my wireless network becomes very crappy everytime it rains outside and a solution to this????

The signal is already low, sometimes good, but majority of the times low during good weather with the transfer of information at 18 MB/s. But when the bad weather comes, it drops me really often. The signal says low and the trasnfer information is 1Mb/s. before it drops me.

BTW, the router is on the first floor and the wireless PC is in the basement.

For only having one floor between the pc and the router, you should have better connection quality than low or good. Have you tried playing with the orientation of the antennas, or maybe moving the router or pc a little. If you have the router in a bookshelf or something, try placing it on a table instead.

If you are able to get a decent connection on good weather days, then maybe the stormy days won't matter anymore cause your connection won't degrade enough to drop you.

As for why the storm is causing problems, well, I dunno. Maybe the signal is reflecting out your window, off the neighbors siding, and down through the basement window to your PC. The rain outside could cause the signal to degrade, and also reflect funny off of the neighbors siding.....

ya, well, that's my best guess anyway. 😉

are you sure it's your router that's the problem? is it cable or dsl? maybe you're having problems with that before it gets to the router? faulty connection , cable company issues, etc.

can you hook up directly (either remove router or just do a ethernet cable to router) and see if the speed improves?
