Wireless Network Card Problem on Win2k

Recently bought a linksys WTR54GC router to use with our barracks DSL. The two laptops with WinXP had no problems but my other roommate with an older laptop with Win2k is having some issues. The software for the PCMCIA card is showing connection to the router but windows is not showing a connection. The wireless card is the only net device on the computer. Ipconfig says cable disconnected, internet explorer is set up to auto detect, TCP/IP is set up for dhcp and everything is as it should be but no connection on the windows side. Not sure how to make the software and windows talk to each other. I was wondering what to put in the network address box in the adapter properties if anything. The card is a "trendnet" card, the software is just called wireless configuration utility. Any ideas on this?

any security settings in place? I would turn off all security and then try it. Verify h/w and drivers.
