wireless network card/device for MAC

My sister is using a MAC of some type for her home computer, which a friend donated to her.

She has finally gotten DSL and wants me to help her get the MAC connected to her DSL / Verizon.

She has opted for the wireless router that is provided to her by Verizon, however I don't think she has any type of wireless NIC in her MAC. I believe that she only has an old dialup modem.

Since I am basically from the M/S windows & linux world, my question is can MACs use the same wireless NICs that you generally see available for M/S Windows machines ?

I was looking at some at the store over the weekend and the info on the boxes that I was looking at ONLY mentioned what versions of M/S operating systems that were required.

Can these same NICs be used in MACs ?

Thanks.

Many are the same in principle, however devices need Drivers, so you have to get something that has what is needed for a Mac.

What type of Mac does she have? Many Macs can accept Apple's Airport Extreme card. They have refurbished cards available at their online store for $29.00. You might also be able to use something like this dlink product.
