just built a machine with the following specs

Mobo: gigabyte P55-UD4
GPU: Radeon 5850
CPU: core i7 860
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz G-skill Ripjaws
OS: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit
Wireless: Micradigital 802.11g pci card

unfortunately i didn't check the wireless card before buying it and it's only compatible up to XP level, as it is it won't load the driver and device manager just shows it as not consuming any resources.

So it looks like i'll have to get a new card, my question is can anyone recommend a card they know to work with Win 7 64 bit? or can anyone think of a way of getting my current one to work?

One more thing, does a USB wireless adapter run less efficiently than an internal PCI card?

Many thanks.

anything connected to the motherboard would be more effecient, IMO.

I think you can do a search from the Add Hardware Wizard (don't click there suggestions) - by clicking add new device > scroll for your brand, if it's not in there, see if it can automatically find it on the net. If that fails, then yeah you'll have to get a new card/adapter

Thanks guys, i tried the add hardware wizard but it just hangs at the searching for new hardware stage.

had a look at that wireless card jack, seems compliant with vista 64 bit so i might go for that.

cheers

I just ordered one..I'll let you know how it goes on Win7 Pro-64. Although from reading the reviews, I'm not expecting any issues.
