Wireless network adapter not showing up

I recently built a computer and am having trouble with the wireless network adapter. I bought a TP-LINK TL-WN321G IEEE 802.11b/g. When I plug the adapter into my laptop, it lights up and my computer recognizes it. In my new desktop build, however, it doesn't.
I have installed the drivers and the TP-Link Wireless utility. I have also installed the motherboard drivers.

I also noticed that sometimes when I have the adapter plugged in and I boot up the computer my mouse (also USB) doesn't turn on until I unplug the adapter. Any idea why this is happening?
My motherboard is the ASUS Maximus III GENE LGA 1156 Intel P55.

EDIT: My operating system is Windows 7 Home 64 Bit.
