Hi all,
Sorry for all the annoying posts, but I am trying to learn asmuch as possible to sort out our wireless connection problem in our household. Current setup :-
2 PC's (One Upstairs, One down) 2 Wireless Cards, 1 in each PC. The main comp mine has a DSL Connection and the idea is to share this. I have managed to set everything up as far as I know, Firewall's IP Settings etc. Currently both computers can access the internet. By the way I am using a proxy program to help with this (Analogue X Proxy) this has also been properly configured as far as I know.
So... Signal strength does range from good to poor, mainly the later, but the internet still be accessed fine from the computer downstairs. The Wireless cards are Belkin, and inside the properties on the link status the signal strength is reading -74dBm an the noise is -77dBm, is this OK?? The speed has also dropped down to 1MB, but is was 18MB yesterday.
Another strange thing is, I can't ping the computer downstairs, but the I can ping mine from downstairs, any ideas??
So... The connection might be working fine for a few hours then all of a sudden will just drop from both PC's. My adsl hasn't gone down, both lights on the modem are working. What I've had to do is disconnect and log on again.
Pleeeeeeaaaassseeee, can anybody shed some light on this situation, my dad is driving me nuts expecting me to know how to sort this. I have never set up a network before.
Thanks in advance.
Mark.
