Wireless-N WAP Option

There's an option on my WAP for a "CTS Protection Mode". I know what it does and I only have wireless N devices in my network. If there is no wireless b or g devices should I leave it on auto or should I have it disabled.

I have read that having it on will decrease performance but if I have it on auto with no other b and g devices will that also cause a decrease in performance or is it only with those devices connected along with N devices it will?

Just force 802.11n only and that will quelch your concerns.

Oh ya I do have N only so then I'll just leave the CTS to auto then and it shouldn't hold back anything?

I don't know much about what the feature is, it sounds like a mitigation feature to CTS attacks (this was an effective way to take out an access point, just NACK their CTS).

Your concerns seem to stem from the 802.11g and b compatibility mode where having any b clients even in the area would kill performance.

If you only have real 802.11n clients and APs and want max performance then force it. You may have decreased range however.

i thought N 2.0 required you to behave with other b/g networks? or is that just optional?

It doesnt stop you from only broadcasting with the N standard. You dont have to be backwards compatible, you just dont want to kill the spectrum so B/G cant operate
