So, here is my situation. I have a D-Link DIR-655 Router and a D-Link DWA-642 Wireless N Adapter. However, after I've installed the adapter into my laptop it only tries to connect using Wireless G and I can only get 54Mbps. I've tried changing the router to only broadcast in N. However, after I do that my computer can detect my network but is unable to connect to it. Currently I have my network setup as a WEP with mixed broadcasting of B,G, and N. Does anyone have any idea on how to get my wireless N working?

Well it would start by checking that you most recent drivers , checking for updating router. I have that exaclty router ran in mixed mode it does seem to have issue connect with wireless n card. But suspect that maybe wireless card might actual be eialer version wirless n and that is no quite compatable with router

I didn't know that WEP can be used with wireless N... however I don't have wireless N so I wouldn't know. I would assume your best bet would be to go with WPA2/AES encryption. Maybe that might help to get your setup going.

Matching the encryption type on both the adapter and the access point seems to be the limiting factor in getting wireless to work in my experience. I'm assuming you are using modern hardware that should support the latest and greatest. Do you use a program on your laptop provided by D-link?

I have the most recent drivers and firmware for both the card and the router. I've read online in many reviews where they used the exact card and router setup so that shouldn't be a problem.

Where did you hear that WEP isn't compatible with Wireless N? Also, do you know if unprotected is compatible with N? Also, I don't use a program provided by D-Link. I actually just use windows to control it. Whenever I try to use the D-Link software it doesn't even detect my network.
