Wireless-N approved?

I was just in Best Buy and saw both Linksys and Netgear products labeled "Wireless-N" on the box. I didn't think the IEEE would allow the use of the name Wireless N untill the standard was approved, and so we saw these network manufactures call their products "Draft N" or "Pre-N". Does this mean their has been an approved standard? I thought there were still setbacks, pushing the ratification toward the begining of the year.

nowhere will it say 802.11n.

It's marketing.

They know that most people are stupid and will buy anyway. It's similar to many other aspects of computing - they assume people haven't a clue. Just look at how they market to the gaming community, and they eat it up like hotcakes.

I feel sorry for people buying these products.

LOL.

Yeah Wireless-N, stands for Wireless for n00bs.

Same for preN - Draft-N, MIMO Speed, MIMO like.
