Wireless mouse signal dropping out

The Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 I am using at work is about 12-14 inches from the receiver, clear line of site. I have changed batteries numerous times, but the signal seems to drop constantly, freezing the pointer on the screen until I either bang the mouse on the desktop or reset the signal between the mouse and receiver. Even then, it can happen again in just a few minutes.

Can anyone recommend a good wireless mouse that has good, consistent signal strength? A 5 button model is preferred.

This is a WORK mouse, not a gaming mouse, so please, nothing too fancy...just very dependable.

Thanks
