Wireless modem, do they exist?

I'm talking the "after market" variety here. I'd like to get a wireless modem for my lappy but I'm having trouble finding one. I don't want a wireless network, but a wireless modem i can plug in via USB or pcmcia slot on my lappy. Ideas? Linkys?? Thanks,

wireless modems require a cell phone to work. Just like modems require a phone line to work

In addition to the card you need an adapter cable for a compatible cell phone with data service, not just voice. It is not cheap and the speed is typically 14.4k/sec at max I've heard.

The future solutions look better though, but certainly not any cheaper.

Sprint pcs sells an actual pc card modem that you don't have to plug your phone into. You still need their service though.
