OK. My wireless router will not work (the wireless part). I can use the 4 ports to hardwire my laptop and it works in conjuction with my computer, but that defeats the fact I bought a wireless router, right?

Anyway, my laptop is a Compaq presario, AMD XP 3000, 512 ram, Wireless G card (Model Broadcom 802.11g Wireless NIC)

I have my router set to broadcast and have no WEP incription enabled. The laptop detects no signal. I can (as I already mentioned) plug my laptop into the router with a cat5 cable and it will work that way. Need help, I am a complete nOOb at this wireless stuff. ALL my computers are set to "let windows pick whats best for me" thing.

I have updated to the latest firmware of my router, but no luck on the broadcom card in the laptop. When I go to Broadcoms website, it says, check your manufacturer of your laptop. When I go to Compaq, it goes to HP's website, and no driver/firmware update. Please help.

Do you have the transmit on, on the laptop? Some of them have a button to turn them on. Have you tried to manually set the channel and the ssid on the laptop to what the router is using?

You might try this program to see if it can see your router.

I am running win XP home on both machines.

As far as the netstubler is concerned, do I install that on the laptop or on my main CPU?
And how do I turn "transmit" on, on the laptop? I have the router set to broadcast, but wasn't aware there is something I do to the laptop.

Run it on the laptop.

Some laptops have button that enables transmit, some don't. Consult your owners manual.

I see no transmit button.

I ran netstumbler on hte laptop and it says that there are "No APs active," and "GPS: Disabled."

You should honestly call Linksys and have them help you with the configuration. There are tons of variables that you need to troubleshoot with them; for me it took almost 1/2 hour on the phone with them to get it running.

One of the compaq laptops I saw recently actually had a button to push to enable it. It was on the right corner if I remember right and when it is on the "antenna" lights up in blue.

Not sure if it will help but hey:D

You know what? you are right. There is a button on the right hand sind that you can turn the laptop wireless on/off. I am a doof, and now have it working. Yeah! Thanks everyone!

BTW - The more I get into hardware/software, the more I realize it is not technology that makes things complicated, its me that makes it complicated. Thanks again.
