Wireless LAN. Need Advice

I need to be able to connect a laptop to an existing LAN with no wire.

The only thing I came across is a Kit form Compex for about $300.

The problem is that the kit does not connect you directly to the Network hub

The kit comes with two cards, one goes to the Laptop.

The second card includes ?bridge software?. This card has to be installed inside a computer that has already network card, and it is connected to the network. The additional card taps the prime network card , and transmits to the Laptop.

Has any one had experience with such arrangement, or have a Better Idea.

H'mm, I'm assuming your existing lan is an ethernet 10/100 type network and machine is a windows pc? Try looking at some wireless access points with corresponding pcmcia wireless cards. With 802.11b compatibility they will give you 11mbs within 150m or 450m range with ~1mbs speeds.

Linksys, D-link and SMC all have available models to choose from, a bit over the $300 price range of your current option though.

Thanks Oneye.

Using your links, I found that SMC sells a Wireless Barricade Router.

It is like the regular barricade but one LAN port was replaced with a Wireless port.

Buy.com sell it for $299, PC Wireless card is an additional $100.

However, if I go this way I save $100 because I don't need to buy a regular barricade, or similar router to share a cable connection.

Still open to better suggestions.

I was also looking into the wireless network solution and found a new entry by Zoom called Zoom ZoomAir 11Mbps Wireless Networking. Geared for the home network it is alitle less expensive than the other units previously mentioned.

OT: I'm looking for a wireless network too, that Zoom one looks pretty good but I think I'll go with Intel, I like name brand.
