Wireless lan issues - Dlink DI713P

I am connecting from an XP Pro machine with a Dlink PCI card (DWL520) to the Dlink wireless access point DI713P
The connection monitor states excellent connection at 11Mb/s. When I just boot the PC it connects fine, and I can access the internet through my cable modem just fine. But now I get 2 problems:
1. After a while, I can no longer access the web. Connection still looks fine, but no cigar.
OR
2. If I want to access another machine on the network, they show up fine in Network neighborhood, but if I want to see content and click on one of the machines, it searches for up to a minute before returning a directory list.
If I then try to access a directory or a file, I am thrown off and can't access anything (incl. the Internet). Connection also here looks fine, but no access.
In both cases, I have to reboot to get access back.

I had the same problem (1) on another machine running Windows ME when initially setting it up, but after booting a couple of times it disappeared. This machine now works flawlessly.
The settings on the two machines are identical.

If I pull an ethernet cable, with same settings, everything works dandy.

Dynamic Ip assignment, no DNS.
Config: Athlon XP 1800, 125GB HD, 1GB DDR, 64MB, WXP Pro

This is driving me nuts!
Suggestions? Thanks.

Identical problem here. Did you ever figure out how to get this fixed. I want to put a knife through the router. :)

I had that problem in my uncles network with the same hardware. We changed the Dlink PCI card (DWL520) for the Dlink USB NIC (DWL120) and start to work better. After that my uncle changed the router and everything was fixed, but I'm sure the problem with the router started when I upgrade the firmware with the latest one and when he changed the router the new one came with an older version of the firmware. If any of u guys updated the firmware Dlink have the older version in their ftp site, this is the siteDlink ftp Site .

Good Luck guys

Hi there,

Good news and bad news

D-link posted a new firmware for the DI713P that apparently fixed the problem (although not mentioned in read me file)
The same firmware reduced the reception by 25-30% on all my machines. That is not a problem in my house, but could be if you are far from the accesspoint.
Speed is unchanged 11MB/s
I also now run with fixed IP address and upgraded the driver for teh DWL520.

Dlink is aware of this now...
