Wireless LAN - From One House to Another

Hi,

My friends and I would like to set up a wireless LAN between our houses for gaming and file sharing but not for sharing internet access. There are two people at my friends house and two at mine so a total of four computers would be on this LAN. We have a straight line of site of 150 ft (I added 20 ft to what we measured just to be safe) from their window to mine. We have tested my friends cordless 2.4 Ghz wireless phone by brining into my house and by walking up the street. With his phone inside my house there is a little static while talking to someone. Walking up the street it's 100 % clear till about 400 ft past my house.

I've read a lot on the ezlan.net site still not 100% on what we need to pull this off. I was thinking of getting two cheap wireless G routers. We both have our own broadband connections so we aren't interested in sharing internet access. We both have wired routers at our houses already with two ports being used on both. I was thinking of putting each router on the window sill so the only physical thing between them would be two pieces of glass. The only other things I can think of that could effect it would be his cordless phones, there is a transformer outside between us about 30 ft to the left of our line of site. What I really want to know is what we'll need to do this. If anybody has done something similar or has any urls that could help I'd appreciate it.

Long Post so he're some cliff's:

We'd like to setup a wireless network between two houses

All we want to do is game and share files

We're about 150 ft apart

We have a straight line of sight

We don't want to share internet connections

What do we need to do this?

TIA 🙂

By second NIC you mean in each of the four pc's? If we have a bridge at each house the NIC's could be just regular wired ones correct? (connected to the bridge) Does bridging cause a decrease in speed? Sorry I'm a newb when it comes to this networking stuff. Thanks 🙂

I'm confused..

If you aren't interested in sharing the internet connection, why not just use a VPN to accomplish your file sharing and gaming needs?

For a gaming only solution, google for Gamer's Internet tunnel. Works like a charm for me and a friend in Kansas City. We can Play BF2 over LAN with no issues....
