Wireless lan card doesn't see any networks?

I just bought a small notebook that is very similar to the eeepc and the MSI wind and for some strange reason it doesn't detect any wireless networks at all. It has xp and everything came pre-installed. Everything seems to be functioning properly. I can see the card in device manager and drivers are installed properly. Everything "seems" fine except it simply does not discover any wireless networks. ???

Everything in the manual is in Chinese so I'm not too sure sure about the make/model but the card labeled "VIA PCI-cardbus wireless LAN adapter" by Everest.

Anyone have a clue what might be going on here here?

Sounds like the radio is switched off, check for a hardware switch, or a key combo to turn it on. It will still show in dev manager most ofthe time when the radio is off.

Sometimes wireless cards come with their own software to manage the wireless networks instead of the built in Windows one. See if there is another wireless application that is loaded in your taskbar.

No other software installed. I can't see any other buttons anywhere either.
I tried hitting fn+f1 key and the wireless by the keyboard light blinks for a few second and then nothing.
I did manage to find the manufacturer website which I posted in the OP. Not sure how much help this will me though.

Well dang I'm not getting anywhere with this.
Is there any common third party wireless networking software that might work aside from the windows wireless zero configuration(or whatever it's called)?

I really need to get this thing working. The whole reason I bought it was for the wireless.:disgust:

What does it show up as in Device Manager? You could look for newer/better drivers and/or a manufacturer's configuration application.

Tried odyssey with no luck.

In device manager it's labeled as VIA Networking Technologies PCI-Cardbus Wireless LAN Adapter.

I've tried multiple driver versions and I don't know if there is a manufacturer configuration tool for it. There wasn't one on the disk and the website is in Chinese.

If you can figure out which VIA wireless adapter it is, you can check for newer drivers here.

I don't have an XP machine handy to see how easy it would be to find that information.
